New wave of artists join Larmer Tree Festival

The UK’s best-kept festival secret Larmer Tree Festival has announced the latest acts for its highly anticipated 20th birthday. As always, Larmer Tree Festival has struck a blissful balance between up-and-coming artists and legendary, world-renowned acts – with a touch of the all-out funky!

Representing music we all know and love is our very own British institution and all-round music maestro, Jools Holland with his famous Rhythm and Blues Orchestra. A staple on the Larmer Tree festival menu, Jools and his gang never fail to whip up the crowd with a belting mix of covers and originals. Expect noise, showmanship and a hootenanny to remember!

Joining Jools on stage as his very special guest will be the infallible Alison Moyet. This incredible joining of two iconic performers is not to be missed!

Larmer Tree Festival are also proud to announce that reggae Toots and the Maytals will be joining the stellar line-up. Headlining on Friday 16th July, the much loved vocal group will add some Jamaican spice to the Larmer Tree Line-up.

Thursday’s headline act will be the legendary Grammy Award winning blues guitarist Robert Cray. With a career spanning over 30 years, Cray has shared the stage with the likes of Eric Clapton and B.B. King.

James Shephard, founder of Larmer Tree Festival said, 'We are so proud to add Toots and the Maytals and Robert Cray to this year’s line-up. Alison Moyet joining Jools on stage really is the icing on the cake. We truly are celebrating our 20th birthday with style!'

In the new music corner, sporting a laptop, effects unit and acoustic guitar, we have critically acclaimed James Yuill. Yuill has set the blogosphere, gig circuit and industry tongues alight over the past 18 months with his unique electro folktronica sounds intermixed with his own inspired wordplay. Joining him in youthful gaiety will be the inimitable The Heavy, fresh from their extensive UK and European tour, and With Love from Humans! who have been widely touted as ones to watch by many in the know press and tastemakers including 6Music’s Tom Robinson.

As always, Larmer Tree Festival 2010 will bring together the very best acts from around the world. Last seen supporting Blur on their Hyde Park reunion gigs, Chicago’s sublime Hypnotic Brass Ensemble will set the stage alight with their own fusion of reggae, jazz and soul. Cementing the line-up will be Bangalore’s Swarathma, whose unique folk/fusion has seen them tour the globe.

Other show-stopping names confirmed for the festival include Canadian Bluegrass act Grass Mountain Hobos, recent Billy Bragg tour mate Otis Gibbs and young, innovative DJ F-Fever.

Tickets for all five days are priced at just £184 for adults, £152 for 11-17 year olds and £124 for 5-10 year olds, with entrance for under fives free of charge. Various ticketing options are available for those wishing to attend selected days of the festival. Tickets are available now from www.larmertreefestival.co.uk.

John Mayer breaks down on stage

John Mayer breaks down on stage

The tearful singer interrupted a performance in Nashville, Tennessee, stopping his track 'Gravity’ halfway through as the backlash from his recent Playboy interview – in which he used the word 'n****r', described sleeping with Jessica Simpson as like 'a drug' and admitted he will always love Jennifer Aniston – got to him.

Apologising to his bandmates, he tearfully said: 'I quit the media game. I’m out. I’m done. I just want to play my guitar.

'I fell into a wormhole of selfishness, greediness and arrogance. In the quest to be clever, forgot about the people who love me and that I love."

He then returned to playing the guitar solo for the song after a lengthy pause.

The outspoken star also took to his twitter page to apologise to fans for using the racial slur.

He wrote: 'Re: using the 'N word’ in an interview: I am sorry that I used the word. And it’s such a shame that I did because the point I was trying to make was in the exact opposite spirit of the word itself. It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualise using it, because I realise that there’s no intellectualising a word that is so emotionally charged.'

John admitted the response to the interview will make him be more guarded about what he says in future as he fears his outrageous statements are overshadowing his career.

He tweeted: 'And while I’m using today for looking at myself under harsh light, I think it’s time to stop trying to be so raw in interviews,

'It started as an attempt to not let the waves of criticism get to me, but it’s gotten out of hand and I’ve created somewhat of a monster. I wanted to be a blues guitar player. And a singer. And a songwriter. Not a shock jock. I don’t have the stomach for it.'

Lindsay Lohan has denied Samantha Ronson hit her

The 23-year-old actress took to micro-blogging website twitter to blast suggestions her on/off girlfriend has ever been abusive to her.

She tweeted: 'This is become a bit much*Samantha R never raised a hand to me, I've never said she did* Enough is Enough. Focus on other more important... World issues (sic).'

Samantha, 32, then thanked Lindsay for refuting the claims.

She wrote on twitter: 'Thank you for clearing that up. The high road was giving me a nose bleed!

'To ANYONE who perpetuates this rumour accusing me of being violently abusive after Lindsay has denied it: I WILL take legal action. (sic).'

Lindsay and Samantha had a difficult relationship while they were dating, and were often seen fighting and arguing in public before their break-up in April 2009.

Madonna back with ex-boyfriend Alex Rodriguez

Madonna back with ex-boyfriend Alex Rodriguez

Madonna is allegedly dating ex-boyfriend Alex Rodriguez.

The 'Celebration’ singer – who is believed to have reunited with Brazilian model Jesus Luz this week following a recent split – is apparently still seeing her former baseball star lover, who is nicknamed 'A-Rod’, and visited him in Miami last week.

A source said: "Madonna spent two nights with him in his beach house in Miami last week and Jesus had no idea.

"She just didn't tell him, and her staff were told not to tell him. She claims she has an intellectual connection with 'A-Rod’.'

But Madonna – who was rumoured to be dating Alex after she split from now ex-husband Guy Ritchie at the end of 2008 – isn’t prepared to let Jesus go because he is 'in awe' of her.

The source added to The Sun newspaper: "Jesus is really, really into Madonna but he's more like a little personal project to her. They are together when she wants them to be together. She decides what he wears, she has sorted English lessons for him and she even paid for his apartment. He's like a little sheep in awe of his mistress and she loves that.'

The 51-year-old pop superstar is also said to have developed a deep connection with Carlos Leon, the father of her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes.

The source explained: "When Madonna split from Guy Ritchie, Carlos was there for her.

"They spent a lot of time together and old emotions came back. But Carlos has a lovely girlfriend who Lourdes doesn't like, which has made life difficult. There will always be a big connection between Madonna and Carlos.'

However, all this male attention doesn’t seem to be making the 'Like a Virgin’ star happy.

The source added: "Despite all the guys in her life, she's extremely lonely since her divorce. She has everything but she never seems happy."

Madonna has four children – Lourdes, her nine-year-old son Rocco with Guy Ritchie and two adopted kids, David, four, and five-year-old Mercy.

Jennifer Lopez couldn’t be a single mother

Jennifer Lopez couldn’t be a single mother

The 40-year-old singer-and-actress, who has twins Max and Emme with husband Marc Anthony, doesn’t believe she would be able to look after her children alone because the stresses of motherhood are so demanding.

She said: 'I know a couple of people, both people I work with and friends, who have done it.

'I just don't know if I could do this, honestly. Now I know how much I rely on my partner.'

However the star - who plays a woman who is artificially inseminated just as she meets 'Mr. Right’ in new romantic comedy 'The Back-Up Plan’ - has a lot of admiration for mothers who do go it alone.

Jennifer added to the USA Today newspaper: 'I think it takes such an amazing person to do that. You get to a point in your life and you think about it, and I think it's a beautiful thing to be able to find the strength to do that on your own.

'That child will enrich your life. It's a beautiful thing to think that option is there.'

Despite taking a break from her career after the birth of her children in 2008, Jennifer knew she was ready to return when she saw 'The Back-Up Plan’ script.

She said: 'I'd had the babies, so I was waiting for the right thing and I knew I wanted to do a romantic comedy.

'I felt like when I read the script, it was at the right place for me. It was the kind of romantic comedy that didn't feel typical, and the script was so funny."
